JD rides the bus

After a second visit to the Seagull Gift Shop for breakfast (blueberry pancakes, yum!) we explored around Pemaquid Point making stops at the harbor and the colonial town/fort.

Carl also zoned in on this motor buried on the shore. He says he will give $5 bucks to the first person who identifies the manufacturer and displacement, double if you get the transmission right too.

After a bit of a lazy morning, we tracked back up the coast and headed along highway one to Bar Harbor. Along the way there were several little towns and views, but only two things really caught our eye.

First there was this:

How could we not stop?!?!?! An old New England barn packed to the rafters with odds and ends....
it's amazing enough that we are not still there, even more so that we came away without some outlandish purchase.

Our second diversion was to gawk at the new bridge construction and the old bridge alongside it. Not much to say about it, just a beautiful view and the perfect chance to stretch our legs.

We finally made it to Bar Harbor and settled down at a campsite. There is a free bus service throughout the island and park. We took advantage of this opportunity to leave the camper behind and let someone else do the driving. Best of all, the bus is pet friendly so JD could come along. It was a harrowing experience that only succeeded due to a great deal of patience and even more dog treats.

After enjoying a picnic while listening to the live Jazz on the Town Green, we walked the streets and along the harbor. We were amazed at the number of people out and about. The town of Bar Harbor is basically a tourism madhouse this time of year, but we tried out best to go with the flow. Walking along the water we scoped out some touring options and snapped some pictures of the fishing boats, etc.

Tomorrow we are suppose to cross the boarder into Canada, but we are trying to decide if it might be worth it to take another day here on the island and rent kayaks. I guess you will all just have to stay tuned to find out what our decision is!
